Jaylen-James "JJ" Slasher (born February 14, 2002) is an American football wide receiver who is currently preparing to enter the professional ranks. He played college football for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years
A native of of Birmignham, Alabama, Slasher attened Hoover High School, where he played wide receiver all four years. As a sophmore he played on the varisty team and eventually won a starting position towards the end of that season. Slasher had a breakout season in his junior year, racking up almost 850 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns. He continued improving in his senior season finishing with an impressive 1,325 yards receiving and 16 touchdownsSlasher helped lead Hoover to the 7A state championship game in his senior season. Despite a great individual performance, Hoover would go on to lose the title game by a last-second field goal from Thompson High School. Slasher also played and started on the varisty basketball team for Hoover High School. His primary position was shooting guard, but he also played minutes at point guard as well. Despite his talents in basketball, he chose to pursue football full time.
College career
As a three-star prospect, Slasher received scholarship offers from numerous major football programs like Alabama and Florida. He decided to commit to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to stay closer to home and for more upfront playing time. Slasher became an instant contributor in his freshman year both on offense and special teams. He hauled in 6 receiving touchdowns and had numerous tackles as a gunner on kickoff returns. His sophmore year saw steady improvement as he almost reached 1,000 yards receiving and netted 7 touchdown catches on the season. By his junior year, Slasher had become a fan favorite and had an outstanding season with 1,127 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns. UAB finished second in conference play that season, but would go on to win the New Orleans Bowl. His senior year at UAB culminated with a conference championship and a record-setting stasticial season with 1,510 receiving yards (surpassing Derrick Ingram) and 15 touchdowns (surpassing Roddy White).
