He learned how important speed could be and that the team is always more important than just one person. In high school, Utler broke my school’s record for rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in a season. That was just his freshman year. He ended up breaking his own record two more times in high school and led his team to the state championship game. In his first year, he was the backup RB and kick returner where Utler learned a lot about the game and his team. He was on a whole new level of competition and he had to prepare himself. Once Utler was able to get consistent touches he was able to show the world what he was truly made of. During his full season, Utler led the country in rushing attempts (420) and yards (2436) while leading Michigan to a spot in the playoffs. In this defensive driven game they lost by a field goal to Clemson.
