Ed "Wombat" Barker (born January 21, 2010) is an American football runningback for the Tijuana Luchadores of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL). He played college football for University of Washington (UW) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Ed Barker was born in Seattle, Washington to a pair of teachers in Grace and David Barker. An average kid throughout most of his childhood, nobody thought he could become an athlete and he was expected to follow in his parents' footsteps. A gifted student, he had the brains but not the brawn. He was reportedly the smartest kid in his elementary school and had a bright future nonetheless. Over one summer, though, he grew nearly a foot and put on a ton of muscle. However, he lacked the finesse and hand-eye coordination needed for most sports, so while his athleticism impressed coaches, he struggle to find playing time in his freshman year. That was when he discovered his speed. Who needed hand-eye coordination and finesse when you could just flat-out out-run your opponents! He finally broke out in his sophmore year and led the state in yards rushed and became a multi-sort star. He eventually chose football, though, and has stuck with it ever since.

College career

As a freshman at UW, a pretty good football school, Barker struggled to find regular playing time despite his lightning-fast speed. His coaches were liable to trust older, more experienced players over the toolsy Barker, and with good reason, as in college football, team defenses began to shore up, and Barker's speed wasn't always enough to ensure him yards. As a freshman, he got 243 yards, a remarkable amount for a freshman, but not a lot in the big picture, and he was rarely trusted in big-game situations. In his sophmore year though, his rival Zeke Deke left for the hated San Francisco 49ers, and Barker was trusted with a much more important job. He took on the responsibility head-on and drastically improved. He had his first 1000-yard season as he rushed for 1297 yards, and ranked among the best running backs in the nation. Finally, in his junior season, he led his league with a record 2669. With that, he decided to enter the DSFL league as a rookie and was picked up on waivers by the legendary Tijuana Luchadores.
