Duke Cheeks (born June 7, 2020) is an American football linebacker for the Kansas City Coyotes of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).

Early years

Duke Cheeks was born to Falinda and Dontrelle Cheeks in the shit storm that was 2020. He was born around the height of a pandemic for the novel virus, COVID-19. Duke was a very healthy infant, weighing in at 13 lbs 4 oz. That trend continued for Duke throughout his childhood, as he was always one of the bigger kids and always a top choice for organized sports. When his parents tried him at YMCA soccer after he turned 4, he was too physical to play with his own age group so they moved him up to the 7 year olds. The story was much the same for Duke in tee ball and basketball, so by the time he had turned 8 he was being recruited for travel teams with kids two and three years older than him. Finally, at age 11 Duke participated in his first competitive football league. He states that it was too easy for him at that age, so he found the game to actually be boring at first. That changed once he joined the eighth grade team and other kids began to catch up to his advanced size. Once Duke realized he had to work to get better and not just run through smaller kids he began to fall in love with the game. Duke's father, Dontrelle, would wake him up at 5:00 AM every weekday to get him to work out. They would drive out to local farms and Duke would wrangle cattle, chase rabbits, and fight of coyotes and other predators with nothing but his bare hands. This helped to make him "country strong". Duke attended Grayson High School and was immediately an impact player for the Football team. He played all over the field on defense and played running back and full back on offense. Offers from D-1 schools began to trickle in towards the end of his Freshman year at Grayson, but Duke had his eyes set elsewhere. Duke earned All-Region honors and several big time scholarship offershis Sophomore year, but he was not interested in the national recruiting scene and all of the camps involved. His Junior year he became ranked as a 4 star running back and a 4 star linebacker and teams turned up the heat on him for recruiting, but he only had eyes for his father's alma mater, the University of Georgia. They began showing interest toward the end of his Junior year, but had higher players on their recruiting board due to the lack of camps that Duke attended. Finally, his dream school offered him during the spring of his Junior year and Duke committed on the spot. Having his collegiate plans locked up took a lot of pressure of Duke prior to his Senior campaign and he did not disappoint. He shocked people with his production and upside and earned an invite to the Under Armour All-American game in Orlando, Florida. By the time the camps were over with Cheeks had national recruiting services convinced of his prowess and finished the cycle as a unanimous 5 star Linebacker.

College career

Duke enrolled early at the University of Georgia and used the spring to improve his strength, fill out his frame, and sharpen his skills. The hype began to trickle in after the spring game for Cheeks as he was all over the field on defense making plays against fellow 5 star skill players. When the season opened against UCLA in Los Angeles, Cheeks was already an integral part of the rotation at Linebacker for a top ten Georgia team. Cheeks was able to leave his mark in the opener racking up 7 tackles, 2 pass deflections, and a sack. As the season went on Georgia continued to win and Cheeks production conitnued to improve. He was clearly already one of the best Linebackers in the SEC, after leading his team to a 14-1 season and a National championship and being a finalist for the Butkus Award, but it stilll came as a surprise when he announced a week after they had won the championship that he was foregoing his remaining eligibility to pursue a career in the ISFL.
