Doy Fieri formerly known as Vance Slattery (born June 13, 2017) is an American football defensive tackle currently plays for the Tijuana Luchadores of the Developments Simulation Football League. He played college football for University of Minnesota (MN) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

Fieri was born in Minneapolis, MN on June 13th, 2017, to Ray and Annie Slattery. The couple's only child, Vance spent much of his early years helping out his parents at their restaurant, "Slatt's Soul Food." Slattery recalled that throughout most of his young life he wanted nothing more than to run a restaurant like his parents. Fun little trivia: if you watch Diners, Drive-In's and Dives, season 40 episode 13, "Soul, Spice, and Everything Nice" you can see a 5 year old Vance talk to Guy Fieri about how much he wants to be like his dad.

Athletics was not something that Vance cared about as a kid, saying that he spent most of his free time either watching The Food Network or helping his dad out at the restaurant. He hadn't even watched a football game until his high school football coach noticed him, a 5'10, 250 pound, 14 year old, working in the kitchen.

As a three-year starter at the varsity level for Roosevelt, Fieri became one of the most recognized high school athletes in Minnesota, being named player of the week seven times, and being named All-State twice - chosen unanimously his Senior season. He was offered a scholarship to the University of Minnesota after his Junior season, which he accepted on the spot.

After the Tijuana Luchadores made national fame for their 10-4 record in the 24th season of the DSFL, many fans started questioning Fieri's (known as Slattery then) resemblance to famed TV host Guy Fieri. After discussing with his parents, it came out that when Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives was in Minneapolis during 2016 filming for their episode featuring non-defunct hot dog restaurant Prairie Dogs, that he had a chance encounter with Mr. and Mrs. Slattery.

"They told me that the three of them immediately had a connection," recounts Fieri. "Apparently, one thing led to another and the three of them ended up together. My parents thought nothing of it when my mother became pregnant, but I guess as I got old I resembled my real father a lot."

Following the revelation, Vance Slattery reconnected with the Fieri family, and with their blessing, officially changed his name to Doy Fieri in honor of his birth father.

College career

Freshman Season Due to an injury to Senior DL, Morgan James, during spring practice Slattery was asked to contribute to the Gophers' defensive front as a true Freshman as part of the teams rotation. During his fresman year, Slattery achieved some moderate success, showing flashes of dominance at times as he appeared in all 11 games, and tallied 28 tackles (7 TFL) and 5.5 sacks. For his efforts, Slattery was named to the Big 10 All-Freshman team.

Sophomore Season Slattery's second year with the Gophers was full of big expectations. He was expected to move into the full-time starting position at DT, after the departure of two upperclassmen. He lived up to the expectations, starting every game while contributing 44 tackes (9 TFL) and a team-leading 13.5 sacks, as well as 3 forced fumbles, as the Gophers ended the year 9-3 with an Outback Bowl win over LSU. Slattery was named first-team All Big 10, and was a second team All-American.

Junior Year Slattery proved during his junior season that his second-year numbers were not a fluke. He ended the year with 39 tackles (14 TFL) and 12.5 sacks. None bigger than his sack on Senior Night against Iowa, when he broke Karon Riley's 37-year-old record, by recording his 11th sack of the season. Slattery was named first team All-Big Ten, first team All-American, and a finalist for the Outland Trophy.

Following his junior season, Slattery announced he would forego his final year of eligibility and declare for the 2038 DSFL Draft.

Professional Career

Slattery was chosen in the sixth round of the 2038 (Season 24) DSFL Rookie Draft. It is believed that Slattery had slipped in the draft for a few reasons, namely that the Season 24 rookie class was full of potential star players, and also because of rumors that he had put on an impressive, and disgusting, 45 pounds of fat between graduation and draft day. When asked about the weight concerns, Slattery replied, "Hey man, when you're on the expressway to Flavor Town, you take as many stops along the way for that righteous grub. That's why I'm excited to go Tijuana. I heard they've been serving up some bomb grub down there for years, and I gotta check it out!" He reportedly then gave the reporter a fist bump and then grabbed an entire tray of popcorn shrimp on his way out of the interview room.

Despite the weight concerns, Tijuana was desperate at Defensive Tackle, so Slattery was named a starter from his first day in camp. In camp, it became very apparent that the conditioning concerns were very real, as he threw up from exhaustion within the first 14 minutes of the first tackling drill. When rumors of a potential cut looming for him reached Slattery's ears, he refocused himself on conditioning and got back in shape in time for the regular season.

His first season in Tijuana proved to be one to remember for Vance Slattery, as he was an anchor for the middle of their 3-4 defense, and his play helped the team end the season with a 10-4 record, good enough for top spot in the DSFL. Unfortunately, the Luchadores would go on to lose in their first playoff game against the Norfolk Seawolves in overtime.
