Douglas Quaid (born December 29, 2013) is an American football linebacker for the Yellowknife Wraiths in the National Simulation Football League (NSFL). He formerly played for the Kansas City Coyotes in the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL). He played college football for Utah State.

Early years

Quaid didn't start playing organized football until his sophomore year of high school. He picked up the game quickly and started to receive interest from D1 schools during his junior season. His playing time was split between defensive end and linebacker. As a junior it was evident he was a D1 level prospect, he was significantly bigger, stronger, and more athletic than just about everybody on the field. He became the focus of every opposing team's strategy. His go to moves were power rushes against smaller blockers and speed rushes against bigger lineman. He was in the offensive backfield constantly collecting sacks and tackles for loss. During his senior year Granger HS made it to the semifinals of the Utah Football State Championships, but came up short in an overtime loss. As a 3-star recruit Quaid received offers from Utah, BYU, Nevada, and Utah State. He ultimately decided to sign a full ride scholarship with the Utah State Aggies.

College career

As a true freshman Quaid played in a reserve role on defense for the Aggies serving as their 4th LB. He made his mark as a special teams ace as a gunner and blocker. Quaid started two games as a freshman filling in for injured teammates. He was named as the Aggies "Special Teams MVP".

Quaid was named as a full time starter his sophomore season after the Aggies lost two of their starting linebackers to graduation. He settled in as a pass rusher from the outside linebacker spot. His breakout game that endeared him to the fans was a two sack and forced fumble performance against rival BYU.

During his junior season Quaid put himself on the national radar. Scouts took notice of his size, athletic ability, and increased production. He finished the season with 11 sacks and became a player scouts had on their radar. Behind a strong defense Utah State had a 9-3 year and earned a bid to play in the Hawaii Bowl against Fresno State. Quaid had a quiet game with 5 tackles and 1 pass deflection, but Utah State was able to hang onto a 17-13 win.

He decided to return for his senior season. Utah State had most of their starters coming back and was a preseason top 25 team in the polls. It proved to be a great decision as he finished top five in the nation in total sacks and was the winner of the Butkus Award, which is given to the best LB in the nation. Utah State had their most successful season in years going 12-1 and earning a bid to play in the Fiesta Bowl against Arizona. In that game Quaid had 8 tackles and 1 sack helping the Aggies cap off a dream season with a 24-17 victory. Most draft analysts project Quaid to be a 1st or 2nd round pick in the DSFL draft.

Douglas Quaid was drafted by the Kansas City Coyotes in the 1st round with the 2nd overall pick. The Coyotes were one of the two new expansion teams in the DSFL, they selected Quaid to be a team leader and the heart in the middle of their defense. It proved to be a great selection. Quaid was an athletic specimen who impacted the game in every way: run defense, pass coverage, and pass rushing. His season statistics represent a versatile linebacker. He was 2nd in the league in total tackles, had the 2nd most tackles for loss among LBs, had the most forced fumbles in the league, the most fumble recoveries, and the 2nd most interceptions of all LBs. In the preseason Quaid was voted as one of the team captains, a great honor for a rookie player. Quaid’s top performance arguably came in week 12 against the Luchadores. In that game he made 10 tackles, forced and recovered a fumble, had two pass deflections, and intercepted a pass. The Coyotes had a sub .500 season but were still able to secure a playoff berth. In their lone playoff game Quaid made 16 tackles with 2 tackles for loss. At the conclusion of the season, Quaid was voted to the DSFL pro-bowl.

2036

Douglas Quaid was drafted by the Yellowknife Wraiths in the 1st round with the 9th overall pick. Despite having a well-rounded year in the the DSFL and achieving three all-time top 10 performances at the combine, his stock dropped from the beginning of the season. Many analysts expected him to go a bit higher in the first round, but concerns surrounding his football IQ over the season crept into the mind of scouts.

Quaid was called up to the Wraiths prior to season 21. The team had veterans playing at the linebacker positions so the coaching staff deployed Quaid at the strong safety position. Despite not having much experience in the secondary Quaid performed well. His pass rushing skills carried over to the position, coming in second in total sacks for strong safeties. Quaid started the season off slowly adjusting to the new responsibilities at safety, there were two games where he didn’t even record a tackle. But with increased repetition came comfort. He broke through the rookie wall and had his best game came against the Chicago Butchers in a victory. He flew around the field making plays all game, ending up with 6 tackles and 2 sacks. Quaid became a fan favorite due to unusual superstitious pregame rituals, which included chugging blood from his helmet or branding himself with an iron on the sideline. Yellowknife had a deep playoff run making it to the Ultimus. In the first round Quaid had 4 tackles and 1 sack in a win against Colorado. He also let his emotions get the best of him and committed a personal foul, punching a Yeti player in the helmet. Prior to the NSFC championship game Quaid trolled the Baltimore Hawks QB Corvo Havran on twitter, he ended up with 4 tackles and a pass deflection in the victory. In the Ultimus, Quaid collected 6 tackles but the Wraiths lost to the New Orleans Secondline, marking their fourth straight championship game loss. While walking back to the locker room Quaid unleashed a profanity laced tirade directed at a group of Secondline fans.
