David Rector (born December 29, 2008) is an American football cb who is currently unsigned by a professional team. He played college football for NC State University (NCSU) and has declared his intent to enter the professional ranks next season.

Early years

David Rector was born in Raleigh, NC to parents Darrell and Barbara. He excelled at sports from a young age. He was also extremely passionate about video games and excelled at math and science in school. He loved taking things apart to see how they worked and putting them back together. He also enjoyed playing tenor saxophone in the high school jazz band. He was actually talented enough at sax to be a member of the All-State jazz ensemble his Junior and Senior year. He was a starter for the Green Hope HS Varsity team on both Offense and Defense all 4 years he was there. While he excelled at both cornerback and wideout he was truly passionate at playing cornerback. He knew the sparse history of white cornerbacks in the NSFL and had aspirations of being the next great white corner. Many college coaches wanted Rector to play slot receiver, but he had no desire to take devastating hits while running across the middle of the field. He wanted to shut down one side of the field in the passing game on defense. His goal was for the QB to see that he was lined up on that side and to not bother even looking once he snapped the ball. He was recruited by multiple schools throughout the country, but decided to stay with his hometown team the NC State Wolfpack.

College career

Rector talked to coach Doeren at NC State after arriving on campus and they came to an agreement that he would redshirt his Freshman year. That allowed Rector to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering and get ahead in his classes his Freshman year. Rector also continued honing his talent at tenor saxophone by trying out for the jazz band at NC State. He made the cut and ended up as first chair tenor his Junior and Senior year. After Redshirting his Freshman year at NC State Rector was immediately put into a starting Corner role his 2nd year where he excelled for 3 years at NC State as the Wolfpack saw great success finishing 2nd in the ACC behind Clemson every year. Rector finished his career at NC State with the all time career lead in Interceptions at 20. Rector was a First Team All-ACC member both his 2nd and 3rd years. He was a recipient of the Jim Thorpe award his 3rd season as he lead all of College Football in Interceptions with 9. Rector decided to forgo his last year of eligibility and take his talents to the professional ranks. He did graduate with a bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, a degree much more demanding than the majority of college football players take on.

S17 DSFL Norfolk Seawolves

Coming into the Season 17 DSFL draft David had no idea where he would be drafted. All he knew was that he wanted to play on the same defense as the likely first overall pick Bjorn Ironside, and he got his wish. The Norfolk Seawolves drafted David with the 2nd pick of the fourth round. The Seawolves didn't have a great season, finishing with only 3 wins, but David had a decent season ending with 4 interceptions and 13 pass deflections, which is pretty good considering the DSFL is typically more of a running league. While David enjoyed his time in Norfolk he was ready to move on to bigger and better things in the NSFL and hoped that whoever drafted him would give him a chance right away.

S18 NSFL Rookie Season New Orleans Second Line

Entering the S18 NSFL draft Rector had no idea who would be drafting him. There was actually an issue with his update page that made it look like he had a lot less TPE than he actually did. With the first pick in the third round the New Orleans Second Line drafted Rector, and with the help of his new general manager Tom Hanks and old Seawolf teammate and NOLA first overall pick Bjorn Ironside he was able to get his update page straightened out and it was obvious to all that David was actually the steal of the draft and probably should have been drafted in the first round. Due to the amount of veterans at corner back on the NOLA roster the GMs decided David's talents were best used at safety for the time being and David was all for it. The Second Line started out the season looking pretty good, but then dropped off quick and lost many games in a row. David didn't have a great season statistically, but he was rapidly improving and knew it wouldn't be long until he was making a real impact on the team.

S19 and Ending a Long Playoff Drought

The Second Line entered Season 19 with high hopes that they would have a good season for the first time in a long while. The addition of David's Seawolf teammate Marcella Toriki in free agency was the talk of the locker room for much of the offseason. Also, a big haul of excellent rookies had everyone excited for the future. David stepped his game up at safety tremendously and made a huge impact in many games. He was given the defensive game ball for NOLA three times during the season. He not only picked the ball off 3 times, but he also got 6 sacks as well as 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery. A huge improvement from his rookie season. NOLA finished the season 8-5 and even hosted a home playoff game against the Copperheads that they were able to win. The Second Line lost in the ASFC Championship Game to the Orange County Otters.

S20 and Moving to Cornerback

David Rector spent all of training camp working on moving back to cornerback from safety. While the transition wasn't too hard it did take a lot of effort to change his way of thinking back as he had become accustomed to the way a safety thinks. Most of his stats took a hit in the transition, but that is to be expected as cornerbacks have one singular focus and safeties do a lot of different things. The one thing that did improve was the number of pass deflections David got in the season. He finished in the top 5 in the league with 19 pass deflections. Over three times his previous season high of 6. He had a lot of near misses on interceptions, but was never able to get any. David's main goal in this upcoming season is to get at least 4 interceptions and return at least one of them for a pick six. For the New Orleans Second Line the goal is clear, make it to the Ultimus. They have come close the past two seasons, but lost in the ASFC Championship Game to the eventual champs both times. Just when the Second Line thought they were finally in a place to get to the Ultimus as they had conquered their hated rivals the Otters the Austin Copperheads swooped in and dominated the season. Now the Second Line has a new team to target, but will their new target beat them 3 times again or will another team like the Otters take out the Second Line after they've taken out their primary target?

S21 and Ultimus Champs

David started season 21 in a familiar spot as he was now in his second season playing the second cornerback spot. He was growing more accustomed to playing the position. New Orleans started out the gate strong winning their first nine games in a row to start the season. At this point everyone in the league including the Second Line thought they had a legitimate chance at winning an Ultimus and possibly even being the first undefeated team in NSFL history. Unfortunately, it got to everyone's head and the Second Line proceeded to lose the last four games of the regular season which dropped them to 2nd in the standings for the ASFC, which meant they would have to go on the road in Orange County if they wanted a chance at the Ultimus. This was familiar territory for NOLA at this point as they had lost in the ASFC Championship Game on the road to the eventual Champions the last two seasons. They took care of business in the Wildcard round at home against Austin and in the ASFC Championship game it was extremely close. The game went to overtime and after the offense scored a field goal the defense made the stop they needed to beat the Otters and make it to the Ultimus where they would face the Wraiths at home. A game they had lost earlier in the season that started their losing streak. This time was different though as the Second Line took care of business and won in dominant fashion. David had another decent season recording 15 pass deflections in the regular season. He again failed to get an interception in the season, but winning a championship more than makes up for it.

S22 Expansion and Making the Pro Bowl

After ending the season with a glorious Ultimus trophy the Second Line got straight to work preparing for the next season. This was a tough offseason for the team as it had just been announced that two new teams were entering the NSFL and therefore there would be an expansion draft. Coming off a huge win it was hard knowing the team would most likely lose a few key pieces that helped win the Ultimus. That ended up being the case as star receiver Jed Podolak was lost from the offense and key defensive pieces Mack Arianlacher and Jordan Andrews were also lost to the expansion draft. With a big haul in the draft the Second Line had a much younger team that was going to need a few rookies to step up in order to have another good season. The season went pretty good and the Second Line did scrape their way into the playoffs, but lost to the Copperheads in the wildcard round. On a more personal level, David Rector had a great season. He got his first interceptions while playing cornerback as his previous interceptions had all been at safety. He had a great 3 interception game in the middle of the season and also made it to his first pro bowl of his career. One of the things he did over the offseason was relentlessly work on increasing his speed, and for the first time since early in his career he was actually able to increase his max speed to a new level. He contributes this effort to how he was able to finally get some interceptions.

S23 and a Sixteen Game Schedule

The powers that be decided to increase the regular season to a sixteen game schedule. This worked out well so that each team started the season with five games against the other teams in their conference before a six game stretch in the middle where each team played the other conferences teams before the final five games where each team played the other teams in the conference again, but in the opposite location. With the longer season meant the possibility for more interceptions and pass deflections for one of the top corners in the league, and David Rector didn't disappoint with five interceptions and fifteen pass deflections over the course of the season. David was now one of the top corners in the league according to Training Points Earned. He helped lead the Second Line defense to a second place finish in the ASFC with a 9-7 record. It wasn't the best season for New Orleans as they squandered many chances at being the top seed in the ASFC and ended up losing at home in the Wild Card round to the Austin Copperheads. Fortunately, the Second Line roster as a whole is young and getting better and ready to have a great season next year. Next season will be the first David has played without Stan Francisco at the helm at quarterback. While this doesn't affect the defense much it will change things in practice as David will be catching interceptions in practice from Ben Slothlisberger starting next season instead of Stan. Will the young Slothlisberger be the spark the Second Line need to get another Ultimus next season?

S24 and Looming Expansion

The Second Line had another good season and this one with rookie quarterback Ben Slothlisberger. They came one win away from being the top seed in the ASFC, but ultimately lost that game to the eventual Ultimus champion San Jose SaberCats. Instead they had to travel to Orange County to face the Otters in the Wild Card round, and that game did not go well as the Otters beat the Second Line. Not only did David Rector continue to be the lead corner back on the team, but he now had an expanded role in Special Teams as he was the main Kickoff and Punt returner. While he didn't have an amazing season returning kicks, he did add a punt return touchdown to his career statistics, which was his first touchdown of his career. Another great season at corner with 17 pass deflections should put Rector at 91 pass deflections for his career, which is good for second all time for the New Orleans Second Line. He has a long way to go before he can be at the top of that list, but he still has many seasons left to be a dominant corner back in the ISFL. With expansion looming in the league and a lot of young players in the front of the defense will Rector and the best secondary in the league be able to lead the defense to another great season and hopefully an Ultimus win? The recent drafts for the Second Line have brought in a lot of young defensive players that will make a big impact on the team and Rector is one of the older players on the defense. He finally has hit regression unfortunately, but at a max TPE of 1420, that's higher than the majority of players in the league have hit.
