"Going to the Univesity of South Florida was a big culture shock for Johnson, due to having grown up in England and Connecticut. Thankfiully, he managed to fit in using his love of football. His scholarship was very useful and with his father paying the rest of his fees, he didn't have to worry about fitting a job around his studies and football. Johnson didn't stand out on the Bulls as much as he did on the his high school team, but he was still one of the best players. After the first year, he started thinking seriously about entering professional football and so decided when he was done with college to enter into the DSFL draft, his first step towards playing in the NSFL.
