Early years
SuperNintendo was born in the rural community of Pumpkintown, SC to parents Nintendo and Gilda Chalmers. When asked about his unique first name, his father answered that it is an old family name and he has never played a video game in his life. Due to his size, he started on varsity as a freshman at Pickens High School and helped lead the Blue Flame to 4 straight Food Fight Bowl victories over rivals Easly High School. SuperNintendo played basketball as well as football, and was a two-way player in football playing both RB and DE. In youth football he also played QB. SuperNintendo was recruited for college basketball as well as football, but chose to commit to football. He was selected as a first team All-State player in South Carolina. SuperNintendo was offered by multiple SEC schools but elected to attend ECU in order to start as a true freshman.
College career
SuperNintendo arrived at ECU physically ready to play at that level, which was one of the reasons he chose that program over more prestigeous ones where he would have had to redshirt. He contributed immedietly on the defensive line, notching 4 sacks as a true freshman. His size and strength meant he was able to dominate the smaller players he was facing in many of his games. In his sophomore year he added 6 sacks and two fumble recoveries. As a junior he was a force to be reckoned with as SuperNintendo registered 11 sacks and one interception. He was a dominant force in the ACC while at ECU and was elected a captain in his sophomore and junior years. He was considered to eb a prospect that overly relied on size and strength to bull rush opponents, and would need to add more pass rushing moves at the next level or otherwise specialize as an edge setter.
