Early years
Cedric Theriault was born in Laval, Quebec on January 26th, 2041. He was the youngest of three siblings in a very athletic family, born to parents Marc-Antoine and Vanessa Theriault. His father, Marc-Antoine, was an accomplished track-and-field athlete in his high school and college days, and Vanessa was a talented hockey player who played in the PWHL and also spent six years with the Canadian National Women's team. The Theriault family grew up on their backyard rink and Cedric's two older siblings - a brother, Jacob, and a sister, Maude, followed closer in Vanessa's footsteps with hockey careers in mind. Cedric was a bit of an oddball in his family - the cold wasn't really his thing. Although he enjoyed the physicality and competitiveness of hockey, too, he eventually lost interest in the sport. Cedric began playing football at age 8, and when he was 12, he would make it his sport of choice.
An excellent athlete, Cedric was one of the most highly-recruited players in Canada by USports teams and got a little bit of interest from NCAA schools, too. He played all over the field in high school, with his speed and agility making him an asset in all three phases of the game. Cedric grew up watching the Laval Rouge-et-Or dominate the USports scene, and so despite the interest from south of the border, his mind was made up as soon as the scholarship offer from his local school came through - he committed to Laval University.
College career
Cedric arrived on campus in Laval without a real position - he had played running back, receiver, and safety in high school and was considered versatile enough to play any of those positions at the USports level - and initially, Laval took advantage of that athleticism by lining him up all over the field. With a deep roster, Cedric played mostly on special teams to start but took snaps in practice at both running back and receiver, too. Eventually, after returning two kicks for touchdowns in the first four games of the 2059 season, Cedric started to get worked into the regular offensive rotation, primarily as a slot receiver. He caught 11 passes for 148 yards and took 6 carries for 39 yards in the final four games of the season, in addition to continuing his regular returning duties.
Ahead of the 2060 season, Laval had two top running backs leave the program - one to graduation and one to the CFL draft - opening up a huge opportunity at running back. Theriault took full advantage, winning the job in the pre-season and proceeding to rush for 157 yards and 3 TDs in the season opening match against Concordia. He would never look back from there, starting every game for Laval at RB in the 2060 and 2061 seasons. In 2060, he finished second in USports in rushing with 921 yards and 9 TDs while also leading all USports RBs with 459 receiving yards. Then, in 2061, he not only led USports in rushing but also became the first player in USports history to finish top-5 in the country in both rushing and receiving, putting up a combined 1695 yards and 18 TDs. Theriault led USports in all-purpose yards in both 2060 and 2061. With two years of eligibility remaining, Theriault instead opted to leave Laval to pursue a career in the ISFL. He is currently waiting to sign with a DSFL team.
