Early years
Devin Jones was born in Liberty City, an area in the south of Miami to Marcus and Trina Jones. Marcus is a former ISFL player, having played a handful of seasons with the Arizona Outlaws, and from an early age imparted a desire in Devin to go on to play at the professional level. Devin excelled as a high school athlete in basketball and football, and by his junior year was the starting wide receiver for the Hi-Tides. An injury sustained at the beginning of his senior year however saw him miss the vast majority of the season, and he was only able to take the field for 3 games that year, struggling to show what he was capable of in the games he was able to play in. Scholarship opportunities were few and far between, and it looked as if he might have to take a more unconvential route to the ranks of elite football.
College career
After his difficulty in attracting scholarship opportunities during the recruiting process, Devin was preparing to attend community college and play football there before he received a last minute opportunity to join the Cincinnati Bearcats for their training camp. Due to a high level of competition at the wide receiver position, Devin tried out as a cornerback and was able to earn a spot as a walk on that season. Being able to hit the ground running, Devin earned a spot among the team's starting quarterbacks as a true freshman, and from then on would excel in his new role. His freshman season saw him tally 2 interceptions, recording one of which for a touchdown in addition to 26 tackles. As a sophomore, Devin had improved sufficiently to sit atop the Bearcat's depth chart as their number one cornerback, and was able to assert himself as one of the best players in his conference, earning recognition as a First-team All-Big 12 player. His junior year would be his final as a Bearcat, and saw Devin establish himself as one of the very best to play his position in the country. He tallied 5 interceptions on the season, two of which were turned into touchdowns, and ended his career as a First-team All-American, in addition to being named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
