Early years
Lucas was born in Dunedin, New Zealand to sports loving parents. Lucas moved to Canada at the age of 17, after his father received a job transfer. Lucas had never played football but was exposed to plenty of rugby in New Zealand and this led him to have some quality tackling skills and he could play both sides of the ball. His highschool coach noticed his talent and recruited him to play as a linebacker. He had a pretty lackluster final year in highschool on a division winning team, learning the ins and outs of football and the position. He was able to contribute on the field with his best game coming towards the end of the season where he had 4 sacks and 11 tackles in a defensive show, luckily for him this was a game where a scout from LSU was attending and he was recruited by LSU to play football.
College career
Freshman Season
As a freshman Lucas came in to a very stacked team at LSU, he had to work hard to get his opportunities while on the field and made the most of them when he got them. The first opportunity came in the second last game of the season, an injury to the starting linebacker gave him the opportunity to slot in and be a primary linebacker for the game. He went on to record 3 sacks and 8 tackles, cementing his position in the team, the final game he got the nod and played well again with 1 sack and 6 tackles.
Sophmore Season
The following year Lucas broke into the starting lineup and was one of the most productive defenders. He totaled 68 tackles, including 14 and a half for loss, eight and a half sacks, five pass breakups, eight quarterback hurries, and two forced fumbles. His coaches realised his potential on the offensive side with some punt returning, he had fast feet and could turn on a dime, he was a natural. LSU went on to have a solid season however fell short in bringing home the National Championship.
Junior Season
The next year would see Lucas reach the pinnacle of his college career, he would have a monumental season recording 94 tackles, including 17 for loss, 13 sacks, one interception and four forced fumbles. LSU went on to redeem themselves and took home the National Championship. Following this year Lucas had been touted as a top draft prospect and he decided to pursue his dream of a professional career and declare for the ISFL/DSFL draft.
