Early years
Jumbo Edward was born in Arlington Heights, IL. Where he lived there for his entire life. This is where Jumbo's passion for football grew. Growing up, Jumbo was a bigger child than the rest of his peers. He played heavyweight football in the pee wees. Eventually, once old enough to go to High School - the coach saw his talents and stuck him at Defense End. Even though initially, Edward would want to play running back. He was a stand out player since his sophomore year to his senior. Racking up sacks, tackles for losses and even an interception or two. Other players could not keep up with him, especially those pesky offensive lineman. A lot of scouts would come to his game to put in some scholarship offers. Some include Ohio State, Iowa, Illinois, Notre Dame and Rice. With all these offers, he eventually ended up accepting the Rice University offer. Jumbo wanted to move far and Texas is where he wanted to go.
College career
Rice University is a pretty competitive college, football wise. As a true freshman, Jumbo Edward did not see the field a lot. For the first time in his life, he was smaller than the other players. That offseason - Jumbo Edward worked on his body and the game of football. Eventually, the Defensive Coordinator, thought it would be a good idea to start him at Defensive Tackle. In his sophomore year, Jumbo Edward saw great improvements. He played majority of the snaps, and was averaging 2 tackle for loss, half a sack for each game. This helped solidify the defensive line for Rice. It made them a fierce unit. At Jumbo's junior year is where he really shined. As a defensive tackle, he managed to get fourteen tackle for losses, eight sacks, three forced fumbles and an interception. The speed he had off the balls was outstanding. It caught the eye of the DSFL. After the season ended. This is where he declared for the draft.
