Early years
Evan Jones was born in Columbus, Ohio. He spent most of his free time playing whatever sport was in season with his friends, but his one true love was football. Jones was known for running circles around his friends and being great at predicting that they were going to do. He played both Wide Reciever and Safety in high school, setting multiple school records in every category at both positions. He led his team to multiple state titles during his time there, winning in his sophmore, junior, and senior seasons.
College career
Evan Jones was scouted by a few Ohio colleges, but made the easy decision to play for his hometown team, the Ohio State Buckeyes. After only seeing special teams and garbage time play for his freshman season, Jones stepped into a starter job as a sophmore, and impressed with his great speed and solid tackling. Jones was the hero of "The Game" in his sophmore season, where he got a pick six versus Michigan to seal a dramatic comeback win. Jones had a great junior year, putting up 51 tackles, 5 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles, leading a stout Buckeyes defense into the CFP playoffs. He came back for his senior year after a bitter loss in the CFP semifinals to Clemson. Ohio State went undefeated in regular season play, and easily dispatched Winsconsin in the Big10 title game. They got back into the playoffs and had a rematch versus Clemson, where they defeated the Tigers handily this time. The Buckeyes went on to face the Crimson Tide in the finals, where Jones' ability to make clutch plays really shined. He made a big tackle on what otherwise would have been a sure touchdown early on, and sealed this game with a crucial pass delfection late in the 4th, securing the Buckeyes the National Title.

He was an important piece of a stout Portland defense, but they barely missed the playoffs with a 7-7 record.
