Bill Dauterive never made it to college. While he could speak fluent Cajun French and a bit of Tagalog, that was about the extent of his academic abilities. In seeking out a place to belong, he eventually enlisted in the United States Army and, more specifically, the Army Barber Academy. Bill became an accomplished barber who cut the hair of every soldier to come through the base at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Despite being an enlisted man himself, Bill was never deployed and had a lot of spare time on his hands. It was during these times Bill often thought back to his glory days on the Arlen High football team, where he earned his nickname "Billdozer" . Bill originally played as an offensive lineman, but held the team's record for most career touchdowns by literally dragging the other team across the field on his back while he protected the ball. These fond memories led Bill to leave the army behind and declare for the DSFL draft. | Bill Dauterive never made it to college. Early years
Sergeant William Fontaine de la Tour Dauterive, more commonly known to his high school friends as Bill the "Billdozer" Dauterive, was born to an upper class Cajun family in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Despite coming from a well-to-do family, Bill lived a troubled and lonely childhood that would impact him for the rest of his life. His father, Eric Dauterive, spent most of their time together putting Bill down and dealing out corporate punishment for even the mildest offences. This type of abuse was a common theme in the Dauterive family, but it didn't break Bill's spirit. He moved out of his family home to Arlen, Texas and grew up to be a soft-hearted (albeit clinically depressed) man who cared deeply for his friends and wanted nothing more than to find his place in the world. Bill wasn't the smartest or most athletic man, but eventually made a big name for himself on his high school football team and later in the United States Military.
