Early years
William Eaton was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where he originally aspired to be a hockey player. He visited Regina for a Saskatchewan Roughriders game and fell in love with the team and the sport. William did his best to visit Mosaic Stadium in Regina as often as he could to watch the games, and when he couldn't he was watching reliably on tv at home. Eaton wore a watermelon hat to every game he attended no matter how cold the harsh Saskatchewan weather got. On a personal level, he tried playing for various local amateur teams, but he had the most fun simply playing with his friends. His parents noticed his talent for the sport and sent him to the US to play for a youth football academy before he eventually decided to play for Penn State. Having already spent so much time away from home at the prep school, the transition to the Nittany Lions was fairly simple and he shined with his unique skill set.
College career
William started as a backup in the Penn State lineup as a Freshman, but quickly became the primary option once the starter was injured part way through the season. He went on to start the remainder of the season helping the team finish 7-6 earning a bid to a lower tier bowl game where they would lose. He was once again the backup to start his Sophomore year, but quickly moved up the depth chart as his performance far outstripped the rest of the players in the backfield. The team went on to finish 8-5 once again reaching a lower bowl game and also losing. As a Junior, the backfield was Eaton's to lose, and unfortunately in the second game of the season he went down with a lower leg injury forcing him to sit out the rest of the season delaying his draft declaration. He would return as a Senior and lead the team to an 11-2 record and a win in a national bowl game before declaring for the DSFL draft.
