Early years
Sam was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and grew up playing rugby. As a child Sam played a lot of different sports from soccer to volleyball but eventually settled on rugby while he was growing up.
In rugby he played flanker up until his Junior year of high school when he switched his focus to defensive end. Throughout high school he was his team captain and helped lead his team to a state championship.
