Boyd attended Rahway High School where he lettered in both football and wrestling. Boyd gained traction as he lined up initially as a quarterback, but after his freshman year, grew into the position of tight end, where he met much more success. His senior year, Boyd made the All-Group, All-Conference, and All-State teams, which helped with recruitment efforts. His favorite college team growing up, Boyd committed to Rutgers University to play football.
College career
Boyd was a true freshman, but left impact on the field. He played only in 2 games, but totaled 10 catches for 92 yards. Over the offseason Boyd was made starter and in his sophomore year made significant improvements, including scoring 4 touchdowns. His junior year would prove to be his best as he became the Big 10's top scoring tight end with 10 touchdowns off of career-high catches and yardage. In his senior year Boyd fell in the TE ranks following Rutgers's recruitment of a new receiving core. His totals were held to 26 catches, 223 yards, and 5 touchdowns. Due to his lackluster sdeior year, Boyd made no announcements regarding playing professionally. Boyd graduated in 2037 with a B.A. in Management Science with a minor in Politcal Science, and seemed poised to enter into the corporate world. However, midway through the its 21st season Boyd decided to enter into the NSFL.
